How to make Sambar Rice Recipe: One of the traditional recipe of Tamil. Sambar will be prepared with adding different vegetables for taste.
Ingredients for making Sambar Rice Recipe:
Regular rice : 1 cup
Toor dhal : 1 cup
Tamarind : 50 gms
Sambar powder : 2 tbsp
Turmeric powder : one pinch
Mustard seeds : 1 tbsp
Cumin seeds : 1 tbsp
Curry leaves : 1 sprig
Inguva : 1/2 tbsp
Salt : 1 tbsp
Oil : 1 tbsp
Green chillies : 2-3 , chopped
Onions : 5-6 small
Corinader leaves : 1 bunch, chopped
Carrot : 2, chopped
Potato : 2, chopped
Drum sticks : 2 long
Water : as required
Step by step procedure on how to make Sambar Rice Recipe:
Take 1 cup of rice and soak in water. parallely, soak 50 gms of tamarind in water.Keep aside for 20-30 minutes. Till rice and tamarind soaks, take deep vessel sufficient for making sambar. Add 1 tbsp of oil and heat it. Now add 1 tbsp of cumin and mustard seeds, let them crackle. Next add 1 sprig of curry leaves and stir it. If rice and tamarind soaks, cook the rice in pressure cooker by covering it with lid for 3-4 whistles on medium flame. From soaked tamarind squeeze pulp out off it. Pour tamarind pulp in vessel and enough water. Take 2 carrots, potatoes. Peel them and wash it. Chop carrots and potatoes vertically long pieces and place potatoes in salt water. Rinse green chilies and chop them.
For onions, take out layers and wash them. Chop drumsticks and peel them randomly. After chopping, add veggies to the tamarind water. Cook them till the pieces becomes soft. Now add sambar powder, one pinch of turmeric powder, Inguva and salt. Mix them well. Taste the sambar, if tamarind pulp is sour add extra water to reduce it. After pressure settles, take out rice and fluff it. Now add prepared sambar to the rice. Mix them gently. Now, sambar is finely mixed with rice, then serve it hot.
