Tomato Rice Recipe | How to Prepare Tomato Rice Step by Step Video :

How to Cook Tomato Rice @ Tomato Rice Recipe: Tomato rice is a simple and delicious dish here prepared in South Indian Style. We can prepare it in 30-40 minutes even in a busy schedule.

Ingredients for Rice Preparation:

  • Basmati rice or regular rice : 1 1/2 cup  (For rich looking mostly use basmati rice)
  • Water : As required
  • Salt : as required (If prefers salt in cooking rice, use this)

Ingredients for Tomato rice Recipe:

  • Tomatoes : 4 medium tomatoes (use red colour tomatoes for rich colour, if tomatoes are in red-greenish colour, rice looks like whitesh)
  • Onions : 1 medium, finely chopped
  • Cumin seeds : 1 tbsp >> (1 tbsp=1 table spoon)
  • Mustard seeds : 1 tbsp
  • Ginger garlic : 1 tbsp, paste
  • Garam masala powder : 1 tbsp
  • Red chilli powder : 2 tbsp
  • Green chilli : 2-3, slitted
  • Cardamoms : 2-3
  • Pepper powder : 1/2 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder : a pinch
  • Coriander leaves : 1 bunch, finely chopped
  • Mint leaves : 1/2 bunch, finely chopped
  • Coriander powder : 1/2 tbsp (optional)
  • Water : as required for gravy
  • Salt : as required
  • Oil : 2 tbsp

Process to Cook Rice First :

Take 1 1/2 cup of basmati/regular rice and soak it in water for 20 minutes. If you prefer salt in rice, add a pinch of salt. After soaking, drain the water from rice and keep it aside.

Step by step Procedure to prepare Tomato Rice Recipe :

As mentioned above, take 4 medium tomatoes, chop them and add chopped tomatoes into mixer jar and grind them. Off the jar when tomatoes are turne dinto puree add water if necessary. Now chop onions, corinader leaves, mint leaves and keep it aside. Slitt green chillies in middle. In a pressure cooker, take 2 tbsp of oil and heat it. After heating, add mustard seeds, take cumin seeds in two hands and crush them for nice smell and add into cooker. Let seeds crackle.

Now add chopped onions, slitted green chillies and saute them. Leave them for few seconds untill they turn into light brown. Then add, ginger garlic paste and mix it well. It will crackle when mixed with oil. Fry it untill it leaves raw smell . After raw aroma goes off, add grinded tomato puree into vessel and cook it for few minutes till it leaves raw aroma. If necessary add water. Cook it till it forms thickness in puree. Stir it well and add a pinch of turmeric powder, 2 tbsp of red chilli powder, 1/2 tbsp of pepper powder, 1 tbsp of garam masala. If you prefer coriander add coriander powder to it. Mix them well so that dry powders will immerse into puree.

Taste it once, if anything is missing add to it and stir it. After puree gets soft and thickness add soaked rice into mixture and mix well rice with tomato mixture. Add 3 cups of water. On top of rice add chopped coriander and mint leaves for taste. Cover cooker with lid and cook it for 3-4 whistles as you do daily for regular rice or can add 1 whistle more.

Ready!! Serve Hot and Spice Vegetarian Tomato Rice :

When pressure settles, remove lid and take out rice into other bowl and mix it gently, so that rice should not break in middle.Now hot tomato rice Recipe is ready for serving. You can serve tomato rice with raitha, veg salads and lemon.
